Privacy Policy
Last updated: 27 July 2026
This extension has no backend, no analytics, and no developer side data collection. Nothing is sent to the developer, ever. The only network request it makes is from your own browser to ElevenLabs, using your own API key, when you click Transcribe.
What the extension handles
Your ElevenLabs API key. Stored in chrome.storage.local, which exists only in your browser profile on your own device. It is sent to ElevenLabs to authenticate your transcription requests and to nowhere else. The developer never receives it and has no technical means of receiving it.
Voice note audio. When, and only when, you click the Transcribe button on a specific voice note, that note's audio is read from the page and sent directly from your browser to the ElevenLabs Speech to Text API. It is not stored by the extension, not uploaded anywhere else, and not routed through any server operated by the developer.
Transcripts. The resulting text is cached on your device so that revisiting a message does not re-transcribe it. You can erase every cached transcript at any time with the Clear cache button in the extension settings. Uninstalling the extension deletes them as well.
What it does not do
- Collect, transmit, or store any data on developer controlled servers
- Include analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, or advertising
- Read, index, or transmit your messages, contacts, or chat history
- Transcribe anything automatically. Every transcription is one deliberate click
- Sell or share data with anyone. There is no data to sell or share
- Load or execute remote code. All code ships inside the extension package
Data disclosures
These map one to one onto the categories used by the Chrome Web Store, so they can be checked against the listing.
Personal communications
The audio of a voice note you choose to transcribe is a personal communication. It is sent to ElevenLabs for transcription at the moment you click Transcribe, and the resulting text is stored on your device.
Website content
The extension reads the audio of the specific voice note you click on the WhatsApp Web page. It does not read, index, or transmit any other page content.
Authentication information
Your ElevenLabs API key. It is stored locally in your browser profile and sent only to ElevenLabs to authenticate your own transcription requests.
Personally identifiable information
Health information
Financial and payment information
Location
Web history
User activity
Third party processing
Audio you choose to transcribe is processed by ElevenLabs under your own account and their terms. Your relationship for that processing is directly with ElevenLabs. The developer of this extension is not a party to it and receives no copy of the audio or the transcript. Their privacy policy is at elevenlabs.io/privacy.
There are no other third parties. The extension contacts no other host for any reason.
Permissions and why they exist
storageSaves your API key, your display preferences, and cached transcripts locally in your browser profile.
https://web.whatsapp.com/*The entire function of the extension happens on this page. It adds a Transcribe button beneath each voice note and reads the audio of the note you click.
https://api.elevenlabs.io/*Sends that audio to the ElevenLabs Speech to Text API using your own key, and receives the transcript back.
No other permission is requested. The extension has no access to any site other than WhatsApp Web.
Retention and deletion
All storage is local to your browser profile. Nothing is retained anywhere else, because nothing is sent anywhere else. Clear cache in the extension settings removes every stored transcript. Removing the extension removes your key, preferences, and cached transcripts along with it.
Children
The extension is not directed at children and collects nothing that could identify anyone, of any age.
Changes to this policy
If the data practices ever change, this page is updated and the date at the top changes with it. Because the source is public, any change to what the extension actually does is visible in the commit history as well.
Verifying all of this
The complete source is public and MIT licensed, and there is no minified or obfuscated code in the package. Every claim on this page can be confirmed by reading it.
Contact
Questions or concerns about privacy in this extension can be raised as an issue on the public repository, or by email to hello@autoclips.app.
